The Demographics Explorer

Getting Started:

If you have access to the Demographics Explorer, you can find it in the area highlighted by the white box on the Avantalytics landing page. If you do not have access to it, please reach out to support@avantalytics.com to see how you can get it added to your services.

Creating a Demographic Filter:

Creating a demographic filter is easy, using the accordion-style menu to the right of the map. In our example, we clicked "Retailers" and selected Home Depot as our retailer. Then, we clicked on the "Age" filter, clicked on "Median Age" and slid the bar to select a median age between 55 years and the upper limit, which in this example is 67.16 years. You can also type the values in directly.

You can see the filter more clearly in the second photo below (boxed in white). The orange dots newly populating the map represent every store that fits the filter criteria. The dots are color coded to retailers' brand colors, so if you compare Home Depot and Lowe's for example, you will see orange and dark blue dots on the explorer.

Creating a Tailored Store List:

One of the key uses of the Demographics Explorer is generating a store list based on customized demographic filters. This list can then be easily incorporated into any Excel document where it may be useful. In this example, we simply clicked on "View Store List" and we can see that a list of all the stores fitting our filter come up. From here, you can copy the list, search it or export it as a CSV.
